Similar scenes of warriors carrying flags or other objects (see the hilt of a sword) can be found on late 19th c. porcelains bearing commemorative marks of either Chenghua or Kangxi. During that time period, it was also common to depict scenes from classical Chinese literature, especially the story Romance of The Western Chamber, Red Cliff, and several others that have warriors & battles in their plots.
