Description
A stunning greyware container depicting a horse supporting a tall vessel emerging from the animal's back, three of its four flat-faced walls incised with geometric lines. Additional incised decorative markings adorn the chest of the horse. Impressive and charming for its equine shape. Most likely this pot would have been used as a repository for kohl, the black eye lining material of women of position.
