Relief-decorated pottery made popular during the Hellenistic era. Palmettes surround face of a Gorgon on bottom. A Gorgon was a creature in early Greek mythology literature. The term most often refers to three sisters whose hair appeared to be made of living venomous snakes and whose faces were destined to turn those who viewed them to stone.
Mounted on a custom wooden stand to best display the bottom as well as the interior.
A very fine Megarian bowl can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
