Description
A voluptuous terracotta figurine of a seated female with bent legs, arms cradling and supporting the protruding breasts, pinched deltoid head with applied loop headdress; rare because of the bands of applied black/brown pigment to the head and body. An extremely old example of the Halaf culture, an organized people of central Turkey and northern Syria with complex religious and funerary practices. They displayed females with exaggerated fertility attributes as evidenced in this figure.
